Malacca (or Melaka in Malay) founded in 1396 is the oldest city in Malaysia. Known for its rich cultural heritage and historical significance, Malacca is a melting pot of various cultural influences, major trading port in the 15th century, attracting merchants from China, India, Arabia, and Europe. It was under the rule of Portuguese (1511), Dutch (1641), and British (1824) colonial, each leaving architectural and cultural imprints. Malacca was granted city status on April 15, 2003.
