site: operator queries

Restricting search to one domain. Some AI systems use site: internally. If they start site:ing you, congratulations — also keep that domain healthy.

You cannot make ChatGPT site: you. You can make the domain worth restricting to: complete docs, not a maze.

If they site: a competitor, that’s a coverage gap.

Examples

An agent searches site:docs.rival.com for error codes. Your docs aren’t complete enough to be the default.

Intensive retrieval: many sub-queries and reranks. Similar idea to Deep Research, different product names.

RAG means the model looks up documents at answer time instead of relying only on what it memorized in training.

How much of your important content is actually eligible to be retrieved: not blocked, not empty, not orphaned.
