GEO Guide

Agentic search

Agentic search is when software plans, browses, clicks, and compares instead of answering in one shot.

ChatGPT Atlas, Perplexity Comet, computer-use agents: they behave like a junior researcher. Your robots.txt, login walls, and cookie banners become UX for machines.

GEO expands from “cite my paragraph” to “can an agent complete a task on my site.” Pricing pages that only live behind a demo form will lose.

Examples

  • An agent tries to compare two plans, hits a modal, and quotes a competitor instead. That is an agentic GEO miss.

FAQ

Do I need AGENTS.md on the website? +

If agents should operate the product, give them a machine-readable map. For a brochure site, crawlable HTML and honest pricing may be enough.
