AI visibility

AI visibility is how often, how fairly, and how prominently models mention your brand when people ask category questions.

Visibility is not one number. A brand can be named with no link (ghost citation), linked but misdescribed, or recommended with a smile. You need presence, position in the answer, sentiment, and which URL got the credit.

Engines disagree. ChatGPT might remember you from training. Perplexity might cite last week’s Reddit thread. Gemini might follow Google’s index. That is why cross-platform tracking exists. One dashboard screenshot from a single model is a vanity slide.

Third-party pages drive a lot of mentions. Docs, roundups, YouTube transcripts, and Reddit sit closer to “what people actually said” than your product page. If you only polish the homepage, you are gardening one plot.

Reddex treats AI visibility as a sibling of Reddit monitoring. A nasty thread can show up in answers before your PR team finishes the statement. The reverse is also true: a detailed AMA can become the default explanation of your pricing.

Sampling errors will haunt you. One lucky ChatGPT run is not a trend. Freeze the prompt set, label the surface (app vs API), and repeat noisy questions. Then read the URLs. A visibility program that never opens a footnote is just a word cloud.

When visibility is high and pipeline is flat, you are winning the wrong questions — or winning them with a bad sentence. Sentiment and position in the answer are part of visibility, not extras you glance at in quarterlies.

Examples

  • You appear in 8 of 20 tracked prompts on Perplexity and 2 of 20 on ChatGPT. That is a visibility gap, not a “brand awareness” problem.
  • The model names you third, after two competitors, and adds “more expensive.” Sentiment is the story, not the mention.
  • A review site you forgot about still ranks in Bing. ChatGPT Search cites it. Your AI visibility is that page’s problem now.

FAQ

How is this different from share of voice? +

Share of voice is ads and media. Share of Model is your slice of AI answers versus named competitors on a fixed prompt set.

Can I buy AI visibility? +

Sponsored placements are showing up in some chat products. Most of the graph is still unpaid: sources, entities, and retrieval. Treat ads as extra, not the strategy.

What should I track weekly? +

Same prompts, same engines, mention rate, citation rate, sentiment, and which domains got the links. Then look at Reddit for the threads those answers keep quoting.
